The trailer for season 2 of HBO GIRLS was just posted on Friday and I am BEYOND excited.
While I’d like to say that this is an accurate depicition of my life, and though it might not be entirely (aka I don’t live in Brooklyn, am not as neurotic as Shoshana who does live in Manhattan and I actually have a stable job) it does encompass my many feelings of being a young woman living New York City with great aspirations for herself.
What resonates the most in the trailer for season two (premiering on Jan 13th, 2013 — mark your i Cals!) is the part where Marnie says…
“I don’t even know what I want. Sometimes I just wish someone would tell me, like - this is how the rest of my life should look.”
How many times have I had this conversation with a girlfriend? Hmm, three hours ago at dinner? We were discussing where our lives were going. I guess it was sort of movie-esq. We were sitting at Hampton Chutney Co. in Soho talking about what measurement could possibly quench our thirst for success or happiness. However, it isn’t the movies - it’s real life. Which means I’m wearing the same shirt I wore last week with dark rings under my eyes, and slouched because I sat at a desk all day — making this scene completely unglamorous.
Perhaps that is what is the best part of watching Girls - it feels real. The women on the show don’t say the right thing at the right time, don’t look perfect and seemingly worry about the same things I do. The only annoying reality check that sucks, is realizing that Lena Dunham (the writer of the series who also plays Hannah on the show) who is merely mimicking my real life is actually making millions of dollars at the age of 26 while I’m still “figuring it out.” I guess we’re all waiting for our big break, in one way or another. Though in the mean time, I’ll happily forget that detail and await excitedly for the GIRLS premier on 1/13!

Jazzercise Barbie on 18th and Park. Freaking out about what you were wearing and how it was “so 90’s” is nbd (no big deal) when you live in New York City and see this on your way home from work…
