Well this is an inspiration. Especially since I have a few trips coming up: Seattle in the end of August, Los Angeles in October and London in November. (Globe-trotter…I know, I’m trying)
The Glitter Guide just posted this fab picture of Rosie Huntington in Heathrow Airport. She’s a poster child for stylish traveling. (No sweatpants and uggs in Londontown!)
To come close, I’ll have to make my way down to Canal Street, Chinatown and pick up a faux LV suitcase. My $5 NY streets pashmina scarf and Aldo oversized bag will have to do for the rest of my accessories.
At least I can sport some new swanky shades. Job Perk: Just got a pair of new Ray Bans at a work event… all in all, I’ll probably spend $2000+ less than Rosie and look just as chic. Gotta fake it till ya make it!
…Who knows, maybe I’ll even ask my friend Esha to take a paparazzo shot of me as I make my way through LHR airport. We can do a People “Who Wore It Better” Comparison.

Why TOMS Is An Inspiring Company

I first discovered TOMS shoes while volunteering at the Clinton Foundation in 2009 (they were there for the Global Initiative Conference). I didn’t think the shoes were particularly stylish (I was unaware of the comfort of these shoes at this time) so I gave my gift card for a free pair away to Arvind who immediately bought a pair online.

Then I slowly saw more and more people wearing them and saw that they were available for purchase in stores like Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. Because I didn’t have to buy them online anymore I went in to try a pair on. I discovered how comfortable they were (better than flats, more appropriate than flip flops and great for city walking) and how rapidly the company was helping children in need of proper footwear.

I bought a pair of red ones before last summer and wear them all the time. I’m a huge fan. They go with everything and are adorable. And, today on Twitter, I saw @Nordstrom tweeting away about the “unveiling” of a new TOMS product. I visited the site to see what was going on.

Once you watch, you’ll see how incredible and heartwarming it is to see this company grow so quickly and have consumers that stand behind and believe in their mission.

This video shows that you don’t need to be a physician, a genius or a person of wealth to change the world. CEO Blake Mycoskie started TOMS with no intentions of becoming a shoe company, but started it with the sole intention to help those in need.

Today he unveiled their next product - TOMS eye wear. Now when you purchase eye wear from TOMS, TOMS will help give sight to one more person. Blake Mycoskie said “TOMS is not a shoe company, it is not an eye wear company, it is a one for one company.” I love it!

Oxfords
Finally got a pair of Oxfords! Can mark that off my list of things to buy!
(Took this picture in my office - they’re the perfect alternative to flats!)
Mine are from Aldo — though I also was a fan of the ones by Steve Madden. Took a while to break mine in and still working on making them totally comfortable, but I absolutely love them!

JCrew Shopping Spree! …kind of

Last week I got one of the best work perks ever! A shopping party at J-Crew - one of my favorite stores ever! We got to go to J-Crew and each pick out whatever we wanted with a $200 cap.

It was such a hard decision because I love their spring collection! Since I’ve started working I’ve tried to shop smarter and buy things that are more versatile, adult and work appropriate. Hence I made a list of things I’ve identified as lacking from my wardrobe to inhibit me from buying unnecessary things. It’s a bit embarrassing, but it’s posted on my bulletin board at home to remind me to NOT waste money on things I already have.

Therefore, when choosing things from J-Crew, I did my best to stick to the list. While I can only now cross off one thing (adorable, white cropped skinny jeans! Perfect for summer) I did try to pick things I wouldn’t normally find on sale or buy myself. This is what I picked out:

The clip elastic belt (to wear with flowy tops and dresses),  their cropped matchstick jean, and the lace over tank.

I may go back and exchange the tank for a dress or something since I’m not totally in love with it… and it was a bit pricey for just a tank. However, this event was such a fun treat in the middle of the week!

What do you think? What would you buy from J-Crew if you had free reign?

Clothing Knock Offs?

Being New York I’m constantly reminded about how Fashion Week is going on and how I don’t get to attend. I lust over the beautiful photographs posted by the fashion blogs and magazine websites hoping someday I can buy that Prada a-line skirt or Chanel handbag (or be gifted it through work or some celeb-friend).

Well for anyone who doesn’t want to spend their entire salary on one clothing item, the larger department stores do a pretty good job of “knocking off.” In fact this morning, my favorite financial savvy website LearnVest emailed me with a whole article of where to shop to get real designer-inspired clothes!

Best times to shop for designer-like clothes: Early March for Spring and late September for Fall.

Here’s a list of where to buy what according to the designer you love:

Proof that you can find something equally chic for hundreds of $$$ less:

Top Shop (left) inspired by Balmain (right):

H&M (left) inspired by Marc by Marc Jacobs (right):

Forever 21 (left) inspired by Phillip Lim (right):

Zara (left) inspired by Prada (right):

Big Forever 21’s and H&M’s can be overwhelming, so LearnVest suggests that you keep your eye on the designers, find something you love on a blog or in a magazine and (if you’re not willing to splurge) search for the particular item in the store that is likely to replicate it. Who knows, you could find something just like it for so much cheaper.

NY Mag Fashion Issue

Further proof that ballerina is totally in:

From Left to Right: Chloe, YSL, Calvin Klein Collection, MaxMara

With 50 degree weather, sunny skies in NYC, free lunch, and this showing up on my desk, it instantly made my day even better!

Not to mention I CAN’T wait to read this article titled “I’m a Bieleber” about Justin Bieber’s movie Never Say Never (yes, I’ve caught Bieber fever and have no shame, he’s SO adorable… you’ll soon see a blogpost of why I adore him - don’t worry)!!

I beg to differ. I LOVE his music, it’s most definitely NOT bland! Speaking of— did you see Glee this week?! Ah I wish someone (if not the Biebz himself) would sing me one of his songs the way Sam did for Quinn!

Dressing Well Could Land You a Dream Job

Didn’t think it mattered how you dressed? Think again! Kanye West just hired a college kid to be his stylist and creative consultant after bumping into him and complimenting him on his shoes!

Cassius Clay is 19 years old and a sophomore at Yale University and is taking a leave of absence from school for this sick opportunity.

According to NY Daily News:

In what’s being touted as his “first-ever interview”, Clay recounted to retail company Opening Ceremony the fateful day that West complimented his style while shopping at Barney’s. The two went on to exchange e-mail addresses, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Crazy right? He’s an art history major but now one of the largest names in Pop Culture’s personal stylist!

Coolest college job ever right? Certainly beat my job at the computer lab when I was in college…

What’s the coolest job you’ve ever had?
